BOTH THE NORTH AND THE SOUTH WILL AGREE ON THESE CIVIL WAR REPLICA SUSPENDERS! These galluses were designed with the insight of Civil War experts and museum curators in order to achieve the highest quality reproduction. Whether you are a reenactor or are merely looking for a wearable conversation piece, these suspenders are an excellent addition to your wardrobe. Based on what was worn during the 1860s, these suspenders are made from 1 3/8-inch cotton webbing and a sewn X-back construction. Long front leather button tabs and replica metal size adjusters complete the suspenders, which are available in two sizes for the perfect fit. In addition to this red stripe version, we also offer a Blue Stripe Civil War Suspender and a Natural Civil War Suspender.

PLEASE NOTE - These are genuine reproduction suspenders and not typical button suspenders. The leather button tabs are much longer than normal button tabs and are primarily for reenactments or Civil War buffs.

Suspender sizes indicate the length of the suspender straps in inches from the end of the attachment point in the front past the cross patch on the back to the tip of the attachment point on the back.

How to Measure

The most accurate way to determine the correct suspender size is to use a tape measure on the person who will be wearing the suspenders as shown in the image below:

Once you have this measurement, round up to the next size suspender, since the suspender size indicates the length of the straps fully extended and the suspenders can be shortened, not lengthened.

Note: If the measurement is very close to a suspender size and you prefer the adjusters to fall high on the torso, order the next size up. For example, if you measure 41 inches, the adjusters on a 42-inch suspender will fall about 1 inch above the waistband of the pants or skirt, whereas those of a 48-inch suspender will fall about 7 inches above the waistband. This is simply a matter of personal preference.
