Look fit as a fiddle in our authentic Civil War suspenders! Marking a defining moment in United States history, the Civil War is still remembered through books, movies and reenactments. Our American-made reenactment suspenders, commonly called galluses, are a high-quality reproduction of those worn during the 1860s. These were developed with the insight of museum curators and Civil War clothing experts. Made from 1 3/8-inch wide cotton webbing and sewn X-back construction, the suspenders are finished with long front leather button tabs and replica metal size adjusters. Available in four colors (natural, red stripe, blue stripe and blue with brown stripe) and two sizes for the perfect fit.

PLEASE NOTE - These are genuine reproduction suspenders and not typical button suspenders. The leather button tabs are much longer than normal button tabs and are primarily for reenactments or Civil War buffs.

Suspender sizes indicate the length of the suspender straps in inches from the end of the attachment point in the front past the cross patch on the back to the tip of the attachment point on the back.

How to Measure

The most accurate way to determine the correct suspender size is to use a tape measure on the person who will be wearing the suspenders as shown in the image below:

How to measure for suspender size

Once you have this measurement, round up to the next size suspender, since the suspender size indicates the length of the straps fully extended and the suspenders can be shortened, not lengthened.

Note: If the measurement is very close to a suspender size and you prefer the adjusters to fall high on the torso, order the next size up. For example, if you measure 41 inches, the adjusters on a 42-inch suspender will fall about 1 inch above the waistband of the pants or skirt, whereas those of a 48-inch suspender will fall about 7 inches above the waistband. This is simply a matter of personal preference.
